Raised by a single mother and his older brother, rapper Dresta, Knocc Out lived a life of high and lows. Nobody looked out for him or his brother, so they both turned to gang life as a means of survival, but it landed Dresta behind bars for three years. Knocc Out had to take care of his younger brothers and sisters, as he was the 2nd eldest child in the family. Dresta and Knocc Out began writing songs while regularly keeping in contact with each other. When Dresta was released, he and Knocc Out's skills on the mic, a combination of Knocc Out's mildly high-pitched voice and Dresta's gruff vocals, were spotted by Toenail Records in 1992.
A year later, with old friend Eazy-E (coincidentally, it was Eazy's 1988 single Boyz In Tha Hood that inspired Knocc Out to become a rapper), and appeared on his 1993 double-platinum EP It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa. Thanks to the success of the album's signature track, Real Muthaphuckkin G's, which dissed Death Row recording artists Dr. Dre (with whom Eazy had bitterly parted ways in 1991) and Snoop Dogg, Knocc Out and Dresta had gained much-needed exposure, and they were inspired to record an album of their own.
The recording industry suddenly received a huge jolt after Eazy-E died of complications from AIDS in March 1995. This greatly impacted the production of the duo's album, which was titled Real Brothas. Consequently, the record was not released on Eazy's Ruthless label as originally planned, but instead on small independent label Outburst. Suffering from lack of promotion, the record experienced weak sales, but still managed a minor hit, D.P.G/K (the B-side to Eazy tribute 50-50 Luv), a vicious diss aimed at the Dogg Pound and other Death Row recording artists, but as buzz from the track wound down, the duo faded back into obscurity. Later that year, Dresta and Knocc Out appeared on DJ Yella's solo effort, and Knocc Out guest-starred on other albums, including a 1996 solo record (Coming To Serve You) by Flesh-N-Bone, as his style impressed many, talking about the hard times he experienced in his life. In 1998, Knocc Out was found guilty of attempted murder for his involvement in a crip gang-related shooting. In 1999 Knocc Out found peace within himself and converted to Islam with the help of orthodox Muslims in the prison Mosque. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but it was reduced with a release date scheduled for August 2006
